The Williams Lake Cross-Country Ski Club is partnered with Recreation Sites and Trails BC (Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations) and maintains and operates the Bull Mountain Cross-Country Ski & Snowshoe area, which is located about 16 km north of Williams Lake in the central Cariboo region of British Columbia. The Bull Mountain trail network includes 28 km of skate and double classic track trails.  It was the site of the 2002 BC Winter Games cross-country skiing competitions. Enjoy the great skiing here with an annual club membership or day-use fee.

OUR SKI TRAILS

Whether you are wishing for a gentle ski alongside the bog, or a social afternoon with friends on undulating trails, or the challenge of a long climb (with 125 m elevation gain) and some steep downhill sections, the variety in the 28 km of trails at Bull Mountain allows you to choose routes that suit you best.

You can find the trails on the Trailforks app or use the trail signs and maps located at each trail intersection.  We groom both skate and classic tracks on our trails.

Our gate is open all winter, so come out day or night – we have 3.5 km of lit trails available until 10 pm every night, or just bring your headlamp!

CLUB HISTORY

The Club officially entered the scene with its registration under the Society Act on March 17, 1992. However, the wheels—or rather, skis—were set in motion much earlier, with bookkeeping kicking off in September 1987. This pivotal year also marked the birth of the Jackrabbits program, where young skiers took to the trails for the first time.

Our story begins with a rather unique source of income: log sales from trail clearing. This initial boost helped lay the groundwork for the club's future. Fast forward to 1994-95, and you'll see a donated pre-fab shelter making its way to the club grounds. This wasn’t just any shelter; it was a cozy haven that was soon equipped with electrical services, ready to welcome skiers.

The winter of 1995-96 was a game-changer, with the club celebrating the lighting of two trail loops. Imagine skiing under the magical glow of lights, with the snow sparkling like diamonds. As the years rolled by, trail signage and various other improvements kept enhancing the skiing experience.

Williams Lake became the epicenter of excitement in 2002 when it hosted the Winter Games. The Bull Mountain Ski Trails buzzed with activity, boasting a new timing hut and freshly opened trails. The following winter season, 2002-2003, saw Bull Mountain hosting the BC Midget Championships, drawing young athletes from all over.

Today, the Jackrabbit program continues to flourish, nurturing young talent. The club has grown to include a racing team and a comprehensive ski school program. Our trails, groomed for both classic and skate skiing, now feature dedicated snowshoe paths, added in 2016.

Yearly events include the Family Fun Day and the elementary ski school races. None of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of our volunteers and the unwavering support from businesses and organizations in Williams Lake.

So, the next time you glide down our trails, remember the rich history and the community spirit that makes it all possible. Happy skiing!
